Barangay Balingasa itself traces its roots to the old barrio of Caloocan during the Spanish period. Historical accounts describe the area as once heavily forested and later transformed into agricultural land by early settlers. The name “Balingasa” originated from the words balon (well) and gasang (stones), referring to the stone-lined wells that became important water sources for the community after World War II.
Situated in the historic community of Barangay Balingasa in Balintawak, Quezon City, Balingasa Elementary School stands as one of the enduring institutions dedicated to providing quality public elementary education to generations of learners in the area. The school’s history reflects not only the growth of the community but also the continuing commitment of educators, parents, and local leaders toward accessible and meaningful education.
According to local historical accounts and school records, the area where the school now stands was once a low-lying pond or watery land before it was gradually developed into a community space.
In 1969, the establishment of Balingasa Elementary School began in response to the growing educational needs of children in Barangay Balingasa and nearby communities. Around 1970, the local government reserved and developed the site for the construction of a larger community school intended to serve the increasing number of learners in Balintawak. Community members, parents, and local officials worked together in transforming the area into a place of learning and opportunity.
Today, Balingasa Elementary School continues to stand proudly at #79 Harmony Street, Barangay Balingasa, Balintawak, Quezon City, serving as a symbol of perseverance, growth, and educational excellence in the community.
As part of the Schools Division Office of Quezon City the school continues to uphold the Department of Education’s mission of delivering inclusive, relevant, and quality education. It remains committed to nurturing learners who are academically competent, values-oriented, and socially responsible.
